Becoming an au pair in the Netherlands requires following the correct procedures and collecting the necessary paperwork. The IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) checks and decides on the applications for a visa or residence permit, also for au pairs. The IND only takes care of the applications for au pairs in case they were mediated by an official and recognised referent. The IND only recognised a limited number of organisations in The Netherlands to act as a referent and to allow them to handle the mediation. This means that only in case the au pair was mediated by an official referent she is officially seen (and able to register) as an au pair. The regulations concerning mediation by an official referent also count for au pairs coming from European countries.
In case you wish to read more about the conditions of the IND concerning au pairs, please check their website. Of course your Au pair agency could explain more about this as well. Please check our partners in case you are looking for an Au pair agency.
